1 month and counting….

I’ve just been given a date to start my new job.

11th September 2006.

Not the most auspicious date, ‘specially for a financial services company in the landing/takeoff path of an airport!

Still, beggars can’t be choosers. I’m really looking forward to starting there now – mostly ‘cos the next month is going to be hectic in my current job. Roll on September!

Civil war

Look at the shoes you’re filling
Look at the blood we’re spilling
Look at the world we’re killing
The way we’ve always done before
Look in the doubt we’ve wallowed
Look at the leaders we’ve followed
Look at the lies we’ve swallowed
And I don’t want to hear no more.

Written before the first gulf war – did they know it was coming, or is this how it’s always been?

Remove all the Mac

Ok, the Mac style docker at the bottom of my desktop has been bugging me.

I turned it off, and set up some keyboard shortcuts instead. Easy in KDE, almost impossible in Mac – take that Apple!

Oh, just to explain, this post’s title should be sung to the tune of “Return of the Mack”, by Mark Morrison.

Happy, but wobbly

Why bother paying for drugs or alcohol (which are the same thing really) when a simple virus can give you all the same effects?

Yes, the Hippy’s poorly. It’s affecting my balance, so I get a free 10 minute rollercoaster ride after making a coffee.

On the up side, I’ve got everything working on my ‘puter now. I’m all linuxxed up. And as everyone around me is investing in Macs (now they can install Windows – makes no sense to me) I decide I’d get the best bits of MacOS on my desktop – without all the licence problems, and for free.

Here’s a busy screenshot and a much emptier one . Oh and the bar at the bottom really does stretch and animate just like MacOSX.

Yes, this is really geeky – but it took me a while to get it right, and I’m proud of it. Besides, daytime TV is only interesting for so long…….

Sober, windowed and skint

Ok, the windows and doors are in, the kitchen is fitted, and I’ve not been drinking.

Seems like I needed to post that – just to let you know where I’m up to.

Shame the money still hasn’t come through. Damn those building societies! Still, the credit cards have come in useful.

I’m just looking forward to being able to move Kerri back into her room – it means I get to play with my new PC, installing a decent operating system – instead of putting up with Windoze for another week.

Did you know I had to reboot the boys PC 15 times the other day? All because I did all the required updates. Loopy!

Pished

Doesn’t often happen, but the Hippy has imbibed – blame southern comfort.

The kitchen is installed – the fridge is full, and the bottle is empty.

I’m drunk and blogging. probably a baD MOVE – ESPEcially as typing gets tricky.

Ok a hard week of juggling spousal stress levels and contractors fiscal requirements has come to an end – and a bottle of southern seems in order – maybe a pc is a bad thing to add to the mix……….

Don’t ever take on a blog while under the alfluence of inchohol…….
