I’ve made millions on eBay
Or not.
To be honest I didn’t expect that anyone would bid, but shantia911 has, and she won.
Well done shantia911. Hopefully we’ll be hearing from her soon.
Hippy is as hippy does
Or not.

No, I’m not branching out into “adult entertainment”.
This is a plea for clicks. Go visit http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/ and give them your clicks.
Apparently they’re running short.
At least I won’t be out of pocket, by much.
3 Days left, and only 1 bid of 50p on the eBay auction. With the charges to place the auction, and the charges from PayPal, I may even make a penny!
But why should this worry a non-capitalist hippy? Because he needs money to achieve his goal. Ah well, I guess I need to look for another method.
I reckon I should study PT Barnum (he came up in conversation today) and the techniques he used.
Yeah, this way to the Egress!!
I’m beginning to wonder if being a Hippy is right for me.
I mean, I love trees, dolphins and small wriggly things that scurry under rocks when it gets light, but it’s people I’m having a problem with.
Human beings are the biggest cause of misery on the planet. We completely wipe an area of its natural resources then concrete over it and use it for houses, supermarkets and nightclubs while we move on and do the same somewhere else.
We don’t even look after our own. Here’s an example:
Riding to work today, I saw a woman being shouted at by a bloke (who was a bit big) – and then he pushed her, quite roughly. It wasn’t in the middle of the night, down some dark alley, but 9.30 am on a main road. There were about 5 or 6 people around, and did one of them say anything? No.
Although I was the furthest away, it was down to me – I called over and made sure she was okay, which was enough to stop the guy in his tracks and make him realise he’d gone too far. There was no confrontation, no big scary blokes pulling out double barrelled shotguns, no shouting even! All it took was for another person to step in and say “That’s not acceptable”. But at least 5 people refused to do that. Are these the kind of people I work to save? So they can go home, hop in their SUVs and drop some fridges into landfill?
Maybe I should start a terrorist group – Grumpy Hippies – dedicated to wiping out all selfish humans (but leaving the rest of creation intact and thriving). Okay, maybe more of a nervous-ist group. Hippies don’t inspire terror.
Or maybe I should just try and change a few hearts and minds with my good example…..yeah, that sounds like less effort.
Ok, this is a weird day. I’ve had a bid for that page, and I’ve also discovered the joys of FreeCycling.
It’s really the utimate contrast. Good old eBay is the holy grail of capitalism, where anything and everything is for sale, and at bargain prices. And FreeCycling is communism in action.
I’m torn, ‘cos I’d really like FreeCycling to take off, but eBay is such fun!
I’m assuming you know what eBay is. I bet you haven’t heard of FreeCycling, though. The principle is really simple, if you’ve got something you don’t want, rather than throwing it away in a landfill, offer it on a FreeCycling message board, and see if anyone else can use it. While you’re there, you can also ask for stuff that you want, that other people may have in the back of a cupboard or wherever.
Most FreeCycle groups insist that nothing be offered in exchange, and that the idea is just to make sure that stuff doesn’t go to waste. Superb! In our disposable culture there’s so much stuff we use for only a short time, then we forget it. Wouldn’t it be better to enrich someone else’s life by passing it on? Who knows, it could become that natural way of doing things one day.
“Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…”
Ok, the Hippy broke into song….time to go to bed.
I’ve decided that just begging for donations towards my PHD hasn’t got me very far – so I’m going to sell a page of my blog on eBay. If it works, I may do it again!
